Chicago Wolves – 1st Quarter 2018-19

The Chicago Wolves have now completed the first 19 games of the 2018-19 AHL season, which puts them 1/4 of the way through the year. So we are going to take a look at their performance thus far. For skaters we are primarily concerned about Even Strength stats (e.g. no special teams and no empty net/extra attacker), although I have included a little bit of PP/PK as well as the estimated TOI values. For the team stats and goaltenders we are looking at overall numbers.

Team Stats

Chicago is currently 3rd in the Central Division, 5th in the Western Conference, and 11th in the AHL with a 10-6-3 record (60.5 P%). Their 3.89 GF per game is #3 in the league while their 3.21 GA per game is #11 in the AHL, leaving them at #5 with a 54.8 GF%. They are 19th in the league having gone 17/98 at a 17.3 PP% while they are 25th having stopped 71/92 for a 77.2 PK%.

Goaltenders

Lagace went 4-3-1 with a 2.55 GAA and 90.9 Sv%. He is #12 in GAA and #14 in Sv% amongst 46 qualified goaltenders.

Dansk went 6-3-2 with a 3.39 GAA and 88.1 Sv%. He is #33 in GAA and #39 in Sv% amongst 46 qualified goaltenders.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins – 1st Quarter 2018-19

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have now completed the 1st 19 games of the 2018-19 AHL season, thus putting them 1/4 of the way through. That means it is time to take a look at their performance to see how they fared thus far. I am focusing mainly on even strength (i.e. no special teams and no empty net/extra attacker) stats for the skaters, although I have also included some PP/PK numbers as well as calculating estimated TOI. Goalies and team stats are just overall numbers.

Team Stats

WBS is currently 5th in the Atlantic Division, 8th in the Eastern Conference, and 17th in the AHL with an 8-7-4 record (52.6 P%). Their 3.26 GF per game is 18th in the league while 3.11 GA per game is 10th in the AHL, leaving them 13th with a 51.2 GF%. Pittsburgh Penguins – 1st Quarter 2018-19

The Pittsburgh Penguins have finished the first 20 games of the 2018-19 NHL season so it is time to take a look back at their performance to see how they have fared thus far.

Team Stats

The Pens went 8-8-4 (6-2-4-8 in IIHF format) for a 50.0 P%, putting them at #7 in the Metropolitan Division, #13 in the Eastern Conference, and #22 in the NHL. They are just 5 points behind the #3 in the Division so it is still too early to worry about the standings.

They scored 3.45 Goals For per game which is #5 in the league and gave up 3.35 Goals Against per game which is #25 in the NHL. Overall they have a 50.7 GF% which is currently #15 in the league. They went 15/61 at a 24.6 PP% which is #8 in the NHL while they stopped 53/65 for an 81.5 PK% which is #9 in the league. Their biggest weakness at the moment is still team defense, but they are scoring more than they give up and have solid special teams performance.

Vegas Golden Knights – 1st Quarter 2018-19

The Vegas Golden Knights have now completed the first 20 games of the 2018-19 NHL season and their #1 D Nate Schmidt will be eligible to return to play in the next game. But before then we need to take a look at their performance in the 1st quarter and see how they managed things in his absence.

Team Stats

Vegas went 8-11-1 (6-2-1-11 in IIHF format) for a 42.5 P%, putting them at #7 in the Pacific Division, #14 in the Western Conference, and #30 in the NHL. It certainly looks bleak, but there is a lot of season left and they are actually only 6 points behind the top spot in the division.

They scored 2.45 Goals For per game which is #29 in the league and gave up 2.85 Goals Against per game which is #12 in the NHL. Overall they have a 46.3 GF% at #26 in the league. They went 11/69 at a 15.9 PP% which is #24 in the NHL while they stopped 51/59 for an 86.4 PK% which is #3 in the league. So defensively they are performing well enough, but their biggest issue is lack of offensive production.

Vegas Golden Knights Prospect Update – October 2018

We are a month into the 2018-19 NHL season which means it is time to take a look at the performance of the Vegas Golden Knights prospect playing in Europe, the Canadian Major Juniors, and at school in the NCAA.

Goaltenders

Maxim Zhukov – 6-3-0 record with a 2.98 GAA and 91.1 Sv% for Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League

A 19-year-old 2017 4th round pick. He was selected in the CHL import draft over the summer and moves up to the OHL after having spent the prior two seasons in the USHL. He has been serving as the starter and thus far has outperformed his primary backup. Barrie is currently #2 in the Central Division, #4 in the Eastern Conference, and #6 in the OHL with a 9-6-1 record.

Jiri Patera – 6-3-3 record with a 2.82 GAA and 91.8 Sv% for Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League

A 19-year-old 2017 6th round pick. He was selected in the CHL import draft over the summer and makes his WHL debut after having spent last season in the USHL. He has been serving as the starter and thus far has outperformed his rookie backup. Brandon is currently #3 in the East Division, #4 in the Eastern Conference, and #7 in the WHL with a 7-3-5 record.

Dylan Ferguson – 5-5-0 with a 3.55 GAA and 90.2 Sv% for Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League

A 20-year-old 2017 7th round pick acquired from the Dallas Stars in 2017. He is serving as the starter but as of now his rookie backup has been posting better numbers than he has. Kamloops is currently #3 in the B.C. Division, #6 in the Western Conference, and #12 in the WHL with a 6-6-1 record.

Jordan Kooy – 5-1-0 with a 1.84 GAA and 93.6 Sv% for London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League

An 18-year-old 2018 7th round pick. For now the netminders have fairly evenly split starts, however based on how much better he has been playing than their other goalie he may very well become the sole starter by the end of the season. London is currently #3 in the Midwest Division, #4 in the Western Conference, #12 in the OHL with a 7-4-2 record.

A 19-year-old undrafted netminder who signed with the Pens in 2017. He is serving as the starter again this year and despite his rather dismal numbers he is actually performing much better than his backup.
