Vegas Golden Knights Prospect Update – December 2018

As I previously mentioned on Twitter I got busy and didn’t get a chance to do my usual monthly prospect update at the end of November, so instead I decided I’d drop one after the final weekend before the college kids head onto winter break. So now let’s go ahead and take a look at the Vegas Golden Knights prospects playing in Europe, the juniors, and in the NCAA.

Goaltenders

Maxim Zhukov – 8-9-0 record with a 3.47 GAA and 89.9 Sv% for Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League

A 19-year-old 2017 4th round pick. He was selected in the CHL import draft over the summer and moves up to the OHL after having spent the prior two seasons in the USHL. He has been struggling as of late and seems to have lost the starting position to one of the other netminders. Despite these numbers he is still #19 in GAA and #13 in Sv% amongst netminders who skated at least 500 minutes. Barrie is currently 4th in the Central Division, 8th in the Eastern Conference, and 14th in the OHL with a 15-16-1 record.

Jiri Patera – 11-8-4 record with a 3.02 GAA and 91.5 Sv% for Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League

A 19-year-old 2017 6th round pick. He was selected in the CHL import draft over the summer and makes his WHL debut after having spent last season in the USHL. He had a couple of rough games over the past month but is still outperforming his backup. He is #15 in GAA and #8 in Sv% amongst goalies with over 500 minutes. Brandon is currently 4th in the East Division, 8th in the Eastern Conference, and 14th in the WHL with a 15-10-6 record.

Dylan Ferguson – 7-12-2 with a 3.30 GAA and 90.5 Sv% for Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League

A 20-year-old 2017 7th round pick acquired from the Dallas Stars in 2017. He has improved slightly over where he was when we last looked at the prospects and is now outperforming his primary backup. He is #22 in GAA and #13 in Sv% amongst goaltenders who played more than 500 minutes. Kamloops is currently #3 in the B.C. Division, #6 in the Western Conference, and 17th in the WHL with a 12-16-3 record.

Jordan Kooy – 10-2-0 with a 2.13 GAA and 93.1 Sv% for London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League

An 18-year-old 2018 7th round pick. He is currently the backup netminder but they do have a fairly even split between their two goalies and he is still outperforming the other guy. He is #1 in GAA and #2 in Sv% amongst goaltenders who have played more than 500 minutes so far this year. London is currently 1st in the Midwest Division, 1st in the Western Conference, 2nd in the OHL with a 22-5-3 record.

Pittsburgh Penguins Prospect Update – December 2018

I am a few weeks behind my usual monthly prospect updates, but it seemed like a good idea to wait until the college kids go on holiday break before taking a look at their performance thus far in the 2018-19 season. So here we go, a look at the Pittsburgh Penguins prospects playing in Europe, juniors, and in the NCAA.

Goaltenders

Alex D’Orio – 4-15-3 record with a 4.64 GAA and 88.1 Sv% with Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League

A 19-year-old undrafted netminder who signed with the Pens in 2017. His team acquired a new netminder who got the majority of starts in December, but D’Orio was back in net both games this past weekend and despite disappointing numbers he is still outperforming all three of his backups. Saint John is currently dead last: #6 in the Maritimes Division, #10 in the Eastern Conference, and #18 in the QMJHL with a 5-26-3 record.
